Awrey's Red Hot 'Vette JH "Cori"
(SR Awrey's
Lil' Miss Sure Shot JH WC CCA
x Emberain Semper Case of Red*** dob 02-09-10)
Cori is our newest edition to
the Awrey Gold family. She is showing even stronger abilities and natural talents than her uncle Duke -- which as a owner WE
ARE EXCITED and encouraged by the success of our breeding program with this litter. Her sibilings are reported as the 'birdiest
Golden Retrievers seen in years'.
At 5 1/2 weeks we introduced her to a live pigeon as part of our breeding/training
program. There was no hesitation to the bird -- she wanted to retrieve and seemed to fully understand what was required.
After over 3 months with this pigeon, it was still alive and well. (finally let it go free when we began her conditioning work)
She has learned to retrieve the bird even in heavy cover with no hesitation from herself to use her natural abilities to have
a successful retrieve. She has a very soft mouth in her retrieving -- no biting or chomping down hard. This makes it much
easier working with her.
Cori was introduced to an E-collar at 6 months and
responds very easily with limited corrections. We are using this for both her obedience and retrieving work to instill a solid
working foundation. She is a quick learner and focuses ahead -- she doesn't dwell on her mistakes, moves on to the next step. She
looks forward to each 'lesson' which range from 10-20 minutes with a variety of work. We have used Dan Hosfords method
of 'The Conditioned Retrieve' with great success.
Recently we had
the opportunity to work with Tom & Katie Quarles. We were introduced to technical training -- helping to build us towards
the goals of achieving our goal for an AKC Senior Hunter title in 2012. (Take the full concept and build with solid training
'blocks' of skills.) We will be spending a week of intense training in March 2012 with the Quarles in Los Banos, CA.
Cori has a very competitive spirit with a strong drive for retrieving. Her marking ability is incredible. She
is marking and retrieving successfully over 200 yds. We do a variety of lengths with precision. Cori enjoys the work --
even the technical field handling drills. Cori earned her AKC JH title at 18 months.
In addition,
she has adapted quite well to the routine of life -- up at 6:30 am or so, bedtime is 10:00 pm. Her temperament
isn't anxious and exemplifies a great Golden Retriever -- she's just energetic and VERY INTELLIGENT. She travels very well in
the car and socializes well with everyone/everything.
