Kent:
We've been together for over 30 years. We have raised 2 children and dedicated ourselves to the
family. We met while I was serving in the Navy - to which I spent over 21 years committed to our country. (13 years Active
Duty and over 8 years Active Reserves) While with the Active Reserves, I then began softball umpiring to which I worked
all levels for 20 years achieving many National assignments.
It was during the last 5 years of umpiring
that I became interested in a trained hunting dog which I wanted to build the teamwork of man & dog. Duke was sent to 'boot
camp' and unfortunately we had a bad experience with that trainer. We (Debbie and I) then focused with members of the SBDA (Spokane
Bird Dog Association) to guide and encourage our venture. Duke sailed through the AKC Junior & Senior program in April-Sept. 2005.
My
other hobbies are fishing and hunting.
We both are employed full-time and we believe that
the 'average joe' with the right dog, guidance and dedication can achieve successful results.
Debbie:
I watched for many years, interested in working with a dog and yet doubting my ability.
Kent encouraged me to work Annie -- however I wanted to do it 'my way' without force training. I believed through encouragement
one could achieve desired results through good breeding. Although essentially successful, it was longer because we lacked the
solid foundation of some key training principals. (some form of conditioned training)
While my stubborness offers opportunities to excell, it is also a downfall with pride. I am now a believer that some form of force
training is needed to avoid many frustrations later. Like a child, we must have our dogs understand OBEDIENCE is not an option --
it's a requirement. While requiring obedience, there has to be the element of trust and love firmly established. TEAM.
Currently I am working with Cori who demonstrates the quality and success of our breeding program. Additionally we
are developing a sound training program.
At 18 months we accomplished her
AKC Junior Hunter title and has begun working on the advanced skills for Senior Hunter (doubles, diversions, blinds,
etc.) As a team, Cori and I work together each day on various skills, drills, etc.
My other hobbies include piano, quilting, cooking and gardening.
Kent and I work together
with the dogs -- encouraging one another and learning to respect our different styles of training.
